Nearly half of people aged over 50 complain of ongoing foot and ankle pain, the majority of which impacts on daily activities. In all adults between 20-40% have had some type of foot pain in the last month. Nearly 75% of these cases will be musculoskeletal pain as a result of muscle strains, ligament injuries, tendon degeneration and arthritis. Foot pains and dysfunction often co-exist with other lower limb and back pains.
Musculoskeletal (MSK) Podiatrists are able to identify the cause and origins of lower limb dysfunction to resolve a multitude of conditions that can make walking, running and standing an unpleasant experience. Conditions such as Achilles Tendinopathy, plantarfasciitis, metatarsalgia, arch strains, tibialis posterior dysfunction, bunion pain, foot arthritis, shin splints, patellofemoral and other knee pains are all conditions regularly managed by MSK podiatrists.

HISTORY
Leeds Podiatry Clinic was established in 1999 by Andrew M Horwood, who noticed that the conservative management of musculoskeletal disease and injury of the foot and ankle was not as well catered for, as it should be. Andrew remains clinical lead at Podiatry Clinics as well as holding a senior position for Healthystep (sensograph) Ltd, one of Britain’s leading suppliers of modular foot orthoses. Andrew is a Clinical Adviser (biomechanics and rehabilitation) to Bailey Instruments. He is an Honorary Visiting Fellow of Staffordshire University. |
